We are small quality Riding School with approximately 18 horses and ponies of varying types and sizes from very small to the very big! Our main concern is the safety and enjoyment of clients and all of our horses are well mannered, people friendly and well trained. We are affiliated to the Association of British Riding Schools (ABRS) We do not generally buy or sell our animals and consequently know all of our horses very well as most have been with us for many years. Indeed, several are home bred. The proprietor, Linda Porter-Cohen has run the Coach House Stables for 20 years, building up the business from scratch. Linda had a successful competition career in show jumping and eventing, having competed at several major national events including Wembley, White City and the National Riding Club Championships as part of a member of the winning Riding Club Event team representing Worlington Riding Club which she herself founded in the sixties having moved from Essex to Newmarket and finding no riding club existed in the area. Linda holds the British Horse Society Intermediate Instructor’s certificate and is now an examiner and Riding School Inspector for the ABRS. She is also chair of the Tests Committee for this organization. The Coach House Stables is an accredited training and exam centre for the ABRS and Linda has trained many successful candidates for their examinations. All our experienced instructors are qualified and have the highest regard for our clients’ safety. We teach progressive riding, working towards the Progressive Riding Tests and encourage all riders to learn stable management and the understanding of different equine behavior, producing ‘rounded’ riders who are in harmony with our horses. We have two all-weather outdoor schools and offer a variety of lessons, including class and private. Class lessons usually have a maximum of 6 clients per group. We also offer lunge lessons, which are excellent for correcting position and posture and help greatly with confidence. Nervous adults benefit enormously from these type of lessons. We also offer special introductory half hour lessons which are especially popular with adults restarting riding after a break. We also offer hacking for regular clients. We are unable to offer livery facilities. We also run a Rider’s Club for our clients as a optional ‘extra’. This Club is an active club and holds many varied activities - see Riders Club section.
